GAYLA ROBINSON

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

Many issues we face as people stem from our inability to upgrade our thinking and walk in accountability. We often base our current selves on the label’s others have given us or our own. Rather than reaching our full potential, we live a compromised life. Mental health is learning to manage the outcome of what we’ve done and what was done to us. Mental health services are not a one-size-fits-all model, and I work to customize the therapeutic experience with relevant and culturally sensitive interventions.

I address issues of daily life and nuanced experiences of discouragement, church/religious hurt, rejection, abandonment, separation & divorce transitioning, dating after breaking up, job loss, grief, phobias, betrayal, stifled creativity, lack of knowing self, social and conversational awkwardness, self-discovery in career, racism/black, multi-ethnic issues. I work with a sense of urgency because life is time-sensitive. Not everyone has the luxury of receiving long-term therapy.

It is essential to meet people where they are and, based on their time, to commit to the process. Many of my clients are parents and have inflexible and demanding jobs. I believe in being flexible and making accommodations to the best of my ability. My hope is for clients to be honest with themselves and willing to adjust their thinking and behavior if it is a barrier to wholeness. Change is not easy, but it is the only constant in life. I match the pace of my clients and provide interactive feedback when appropriate and welcome.

Typically, people are victims of being mishandled by life & respond to that dysfunction. My goal is to assist & challenge clients to become more self-aware & interpersonally aware through understanding how thoughts, feelings, behaviors, & environments impact the quality of life, & more empowered to reduce barriers to personal growth.
